Are you planning a trip to St. Louis and think the only great places to see are The Arch, St. Louis Zoo, and Six Flags?  Well, you will be pleasantly surprised to know that there are some great local favorite places to visit that your family won’t want to miss.

Well Known Places to See:

St Louis Gateway Arch – The Gateway to the West is the tallest national monument in the US.  When visiting the Arch you can take a trip to the top for a great view then browse through the Museum of Westward Expansion.

St Louis Zoo – Want to visit one of the best zoos in America?  Well, look no further.  The St Louis Zoo has not only hundreds of animals to see, but also a Children’s Zoo that hosts hands on activities and a playground with a spray area.  There are also many educational programs that are often open for walk-in participants.  Most important the zoo is FREE!

Six Flags – A great theme park that has rides for all ages, live entertainment and a seasonal water park.

Local Favorites:

St Louis Carousel at Faust Park – This 1929 carousel has been restored to its original beauty and is running for all to enjoy a ride.  There is also a great state of the art playground for the kids to use up some energy.

Missouri Botanical Gardens – Take a stroll through a wonderful garden with hundreds of different flowers and a great children’s play area.

Lone Elk Park – Wildlife management area to drive through to see bison, elk, deer, wild turkey and waterfowl.  Also the home of the World Bird Sanctuary.

The Magic House – Hands on learning experiences that encourage experimentation.

City Museum – A children’s indoor playground and funhouse.

  • We went to STL in November of 08. Our son was only 11 months at the time so we didn’t do a lot of kid activities. But I can tell you that the hotel we stayed at, Embassy Suites – St. Charles, was awesome and very accommodating to our family. There was a crib in the room upon our arrival, as well as a high chair. I am a little nutty about his diet so I usually don’t order off the kids menus for him – I put in several “special” requests for his meals and got no flack from the hotel whatsoever! We were there for several days and anytime I called the concierege for anything – they delivered within minutes. Definitely a kid friendly hotel! We have family in STL and I can tell you for sure- we will stay at the Embassy Suites – St. Charles every time.
