Win a Philips Portable DVD Player, Help Build a School in Cambodia!
I am so excited to be a part of this year’s Passports With Purpose! It’s a great way to give something back, while getting a little something in return. Win, win!!
Last year, four Seattle-area travel bloggers launched a fundraising effort and raised nearly $7,500 for Heifer International. This year, they’ve expanded their efforts to support American Assistance for Cambodia by aiming to raise $13,000 to build a school in rural Cambodia. I think this totally fits with the whole philosophy of BestKidFriendlyTravel: “Together, we can give our children the world”. What better way to give a child the world, than to give a child an education? Please join me by going to the Passports With Pupose website and donating, in $10 increments, to be entered for the prize(s) of your choice. (See official rules here.)
About American Assistance for Cambodia’s Rural Schools Program:
Despite their difficult recent past, when the Khmer Rouge destroyed their economy and killed millions of people in the late 70′s, Cambodians maintain a strong spirit of hope and desire to rebuild both at a personal level and a national level. English language and computer schools seem to be down every alleyway in Phnom Penh. Parents scrimp to sign young children up for lessons in English and computers and to learn the cultural arts that were all but lost during the Khmer Rouge Regime.
In rural areas, the sense of hope and the desire to rebuild might be just as strong, but the options are more limited. This year PwP will establish a school in a rural area whose children have been deprived from any educational facilities. It’s our hope that such a school will provide a much needed alternative to poverty or sex trafficking to the young people of Cambodia.
Our Prize:
Many bloggers are offering wonderful prizes, and bidding on any of them will help the cause. We are offering a Philips portable DVD player with two 7″ widescreen LCDs (PET7402) valued at $149.99. It plays DVD, DVD+/-R, DVD+/-RW, (S)VCD, MP3-CD, CD, CD-RW, and shares JPEG image files with picture CD. I know a lot of Cambodians personally, and I know that they are strong persons, they could overcome any obstacles in life.
And they have a rich culture and they have a strong desire to learn. Hope that they could overcome problems like sex trafficking. I know they could.
