Take the Kids to Cancun for an Awesome Family Beach Vacation
By Cooper Wiestling
Cancun, Mexico is the one place where we go every year. I love this place. It’s just amazing. If you like beaches, tropical landscapes, mayan ruins, and wildlife galore, then this is the place for you. It has all that and more.
Cancun is located in the Yucatán Peninsula, so it’s right by the water. The beaches are made of crushed coral, and it’s like walking on flour. It’s really soft. The water is always really nice there, too. Be careful of the undertow, though.
We went to Tulúm, an ancient Mayan city along the coast. It was really fun because you got to learn about the Mayan culture and you got to see ancient Mayan temples and homes. I would really recommend going there, but bring a water bottle! It gets real hot. There’s lots of jungle wildlife there and there are iguanas all over the place!
We also went to Xel-ha (http://www.xelha.com/), a big park where they net in a bay so that you can swim with fish, as if you were in the ocean. No sharks or crocodiles or anything, just fish of every kind, groupers, barracuda, rays, dolphins, manatees and more. But the dolphins and manatees you have to pay separately for, they’re not loose like the rest of the fish. They also have cave diving, zip-lining, the cliff of courage, a ropes course, and way more on land, like the mayan village, the cenotes, the food court, the jungle trails, and the peaceful bayside sanctuary, for starters.
The resort we stayed at was the Westin Lagunamar, and it was beautiful. There was an enormous infinity pool, and a big waterslide, too. The rooms are amazing, and they always smell so good. You get a great view of the ocean from there, and right next to the hotel is a mall. You can go out and get ice cream at night, visit the aquarium, watch a movie, and eat at one of the many, many restaurants.
I hope that after reading this you decide to go to Cancun, because there is way more to do there that even I didn’t do!
