Local mom Julie Gangler shares one of her favorite fall family activities: Lattin’s Country Cider Mill & Farm near Olympia, WA (the state capital).
Lattin’s Country Cider Mill and Farm, (9402 Rich Road SE, Olympia WA 98501, 360-491-7328) offers fun, old-fashioned family activities ranging from its annual Applefest to wagon rides and a “less-scary” Halloween Haunted Barn. It’s a great country experience for city-dwelling families, yet just a few miles from downtown Olympia (actually within city boundaries).
Applefest is held the last weekend in September through the last weekend in October, and it’s free (although there’s $2.00 per vehicle parking). Kids can bob for apples and take tractor-drawn wagon rides to the Pumpkin Patch to pick their own pumpkins. There’s also a play area with a maze, farm animals to visit and Bluegrass music.
This small, family-owned farm is a fun place for families all year long; especially with the new play area for kids that includes a year-round maze. Be sure to take the kids wandering through the vegetable garden and stop at the farm market. Who knows, you just may get them to eat a vegetable with dinner… bonus!
