Local mom, Tracey Blackman, shares a chilling (and fun!) fall outing with teens.
Every October I like to take my teen daughters to The Haunted Graveyard at Lake Compounce in Bristol, CT. Lake Compounce is America’s Oldest Continuously Operating Amusement Park in the country and every October they completely decorate the park with scary props and costume characters, and they host a HUGE Haunted Graveyard in the back. It’s a 45 minute walk-through and it’s the scariest thing ever. This is NOT for little kids, or folks who cannot take a real thrill. (check out the video commercial here) The rides are in operation, too. So before or after the walk through the Haunted Graveyard, we get to have fun on the coasters and get fried oreos and hot chocolate! The best time to go is early in October because it is much less crowded and the lines are short for everything. As Halloween approaches the park gets packed. This event also benefits the American Diabetes Association, so we know we are helping out a great cause, too! Visit www.lakecompounce.com or http://www.hauntedgraveyard.com/ for schedule.
A bit about the graveyard: “The Haunted Graveyard got its start in 1991, when Ernie and Carol Romegialli’s daughter, Johanna, was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes. ‘We started decorating our yard … it would keep Johanna’s mind off candy, ‘ notes Ernie, ‘It outgrew our yard and has since evolved into Southern New England’s largest Halloween attraction.’ To date, The Haunted Graveyard has raised more than $650,000 for Diabetes Research.
