Puerto Rico is known for white sandy beaches and gorgeous weather year round… making it a perfect family vacation spot. Experience the lively culture through music and food, or marvel in the beauty of Puerto Rico’s many ecological gems. No matter your interests, there’s something here for everyone. Here are 5 not to miss:
La Guancha Boardwalk in Ponce – A lively area along the Caribbean Sea with live salsa music, plenty of restaurants, and a public beach. Take in the view from the observation tower, or watch big fish swimming near and under the boardwalk. Nearby there are playgrounds and an arcade.
Coqui Water Park – available only to registered guests of the El Conquistador Resort & Golden Door Spa, this water park is full of wild slides and overlooks the Caribbean Sea.
Mosquito Bay – Bio Bay – Kayak on a moonless night for the best view of the bioluminescent organisms in the water below. You can also take a tour on a bigger boat that is under a captain’s control if you prefer. In order to protect these magical creatures, swimming in the bay is now prohibited, but the trail from the kayak paddles and boat engine will create a beautiful glow.
The Beach – All the beaches are open to the public and several of them are run by the government. Which means, those beaches have dressing rooms, lifeguards, concession stands and parking. Some of them also have playgrounds and picnic tables, as well as camping facilities. Come back soon for an upcoming post on which beaches are the most kid friendly! But, just so I don’t leave you hanging, here’s one I can recommend: Playa Luquillo is a crescent-shaped beach protected by coral reefs, keeping the lagoon crystal clear and an ideal place to swim. The beach even has a wheelchair ramp. Enjoy Puerto Rican savories and tropical cocktails from one the nearby concession stands.
Museo del Nino -It’s always important to have one rainy-day activity on the list, and this one is perfect for the whole family. The real airplane outside is a treat because you can explore places you normally can’t, and the giant volcano inside the museum that ‘erupts’ on a regular basis is a real attention-getter. These are just a couple of examples that show the appeal to older kids as well as little kids… perfect for families of all sizes.
My mom is in the beginning stages of searching for investment property in Puerto Rico. My husband and myself are helping her find the best area and this has helped a lot. WE have 2 children and will be visiting on a regular basis. Thanks for the great info!
Cheers~Erin
