Orlando is consistently in the top family vacation destinations in the world year after year. The biggest draw is Walt Disney World, and we include it in this list. There are a few more major theme parks in this area that are worth an extended trip or a reason to come back every year.
Walt Disney World: With 4 theme parks, 2 water parks and the Downtown Disney shopping and entertainment district (including T-Rex Cafe above), you can (and many people do) spend your entire week-long vacation jam-packed with fun and never step outside Disney soil. You’re never too young (or too old) to immerse yourself in Disney Magic, meet favorite characters and enjoy the many family activities for all ages. Staying in a Disney resort gives you special perks by staying ‘on property’, including continuing the magic at the resort itself and special park hours just for hotel guests.
Universal Studios: There is almost as much fun as WDW packed into only 2 parks and an entertainment district at Universal Orlando and Islands of Adventure. What this means to me is less walking, less admission prices for an overall better value, especially if you go to amusement parks for the rides. The wildly popular Harry Potter world is a destination unto itself. There are special perks for staying at Universal Studios resort, including special park hours and shorter ride lines just for resort guests.
SeaWorld: Of all the SeaWorld locations, this one has the best rides for dads and older kids. Little ones and animal lovers of all ages will love every inch of this theme park based on animal conservation and preservation. SeaWorld also has a water park called Aquatica, and a little-known animal encounter park called Discovery Cove.
LEGOLAND Florida: Many people never outgrow their LEGO obsessions, and our son is definitely headed in that direction. About 45 minutes from Orlando, LEGOLAND Florida is worth the drive for LEGO lovers of all ages. MINILAND is an intricate miniature recreation of several famous cities in Florida and around the world. There is a water park here that is totally worth the money. Florida gets hot, and this water park has sections for all ages and abilities to enjoy and stay cool.
Wet ‘N Wild: This attraction has one and only one claim to fame… water park. There are countless water slides from tame to thrilling, ensuring a fun way to beat the Florida heat. With more multi-person rides than other water parks, it’s easier than ever to stay together as a group and enjoy the park together. The new Blastaway Beach is specifically designed for families to splash and play together for more bonding fun.
